All in all, there were 145 attendees and had a mix of about 60% actives and 40% alumni. The event was planned by active Formal Chair Marco Fanelli and chapter alumni David Cerbone who deserves a lot of credit for the large alumni turnout. The chapter gave out their usual awards seeing Jonathon Castro as the new Top Teke, Rachel Cole of Alpha Xi Delta as the new sweetheart and Brian Wurme as alumni of the year. A new award, Outstanding Alumni Charity was awarded to Will Cheung. Spring 2011 initiate Christopher Fernandez walked out of the dinner with a clean sweep, winning all three awards he was nominated for.         This Fall 2011, TKE Xi-Iota chapter got 28 guys at rush! Thanks to the leadership and organization of the Rush Chairman, Jonathan Castro. Now that rush is over, the new member period will begin and they will be on their journey to join the other 252,000 teke brothers around the world! Following that, on September 28th 2011, Xi-Iota celebrated its success at rush and always strengthening brotherhood by going go-carting at Lil’ 500. Though slightly wet and rainy, the brothers had a great time racing and sliding all over the track. Vince Keating and Tyler Swonger came out on top as the best drivers of the night, congratulations to them! It was a great time as always having fun with the brothers and we are looking forward to our next brotherhood event!

On September 9th 2011, UCF had an IM 4v4 golf tournament hosted by Deer Run Golf Club. Xi Iota had a team of four brothers enter the scramble and come out with a tie for 7th place! The team consisted of Marco Fanelli, Andrew Lee, Brad Leininger, and Brandon Bachman. They did tremendously well during the tournament and even better in the longest drive contest where Andrew Lee came in 1st! Congratulations! Good job guys, best of luck in your next golf performance.

  • Wednesday September 14th: Formal UCF Rush at Memory Mall (7pm-11pm)
  • Thursday September 15th: Formal UCF Rush at Memory Mall (7pm-11pm)
  • Friday September 16th: Rush at TKE House (7pm-10pm)

On August 27th 2011, Xi-Iota had its first brotherhood retreat of the fall semester, set up by the chaplain Tim Natzke. The brothers got up and traveled over to the Orlando wetlands reserve park. They spent the day outside, grilling, playing sports, and having a relaxing time. It is nice to have this time to spend with just the brothers and continue to grow closer while reinforcing the bond between each other. This was a great way to pump the chapter up and get everyone ready for fall rushing!

Conclave is the TKE biennial convention that is held every year and is a great celebration of brotherhood, where Tekes from all over the world come together. During Conclave, brothers vote on governing changes, recognize the best and brightest Fraters and Chapters, and participate in leadership activities. This year was a great year for the Xi Iota chapter during Conclave. Our chapter was presented with one of ten Top TKE Chapter awards, which is a very notable and a humbling recognition. If that wasn’t enough, our Prytanis (president), Ryan Talbot, was given the Top Teke Award for living and representing all the ideals of what a top Teke should be. Our rush officer, Jonathon Castro, won Top TKE Recruiter, which is a great honor and shows how much effort he has put into recruitment. Also, Marco Fanelli received a scholarship from the TKE Educational Foundation. Congratulations to all the recipients and to the chapter for such amazing recognitions at this year’s Conclave. Keep up the incredible work Fraters!

The summer B semester is about to begin and that means Tau Kappa Epsilon will be kicking off its rush events! All incoming freshman and summer class attendees looking to go Greek, this is your chance to find out if TKE is the fraternity for you. Rush events start June 27th and continue all the way up to the final days of summer rush at the TKE house on July 14th and 15th. These activities are a great, exciting way to get to know the brothers of the Xi-Iota TKE chapter.

Some fun events include:

  • July 3rd Rebounderz Indoor Trampoline Arena
  • July 4th Fourth of July celebration at TKE House
  • July 9th BBQ at Cocoa Beach
  • July 11th Go Carts at Lil’500
Besides those, the brothers will be at every freshman ice cream social, so stop by and find out what it’s all about to be a teke!

On April 16th, 2011, the Xi Iota chapter had its annual Semi-Formal Event. This year the chapter went to the International Palms Resort in Cocoa Beach. The day began with brothers hanging out on the beach for the afternoon and relaxing before the upcoming finals week. Later that evening, there was a catered dinner overlooking the water where Semi-Formal awards were given out. The night ended with brothers enjoying themselves all over the resort from the beach to the rooms to the hot tubs. Semi-Formal was a lot of fun and is something everyone looks forward to each year.

This event went from 5pm April 1st to 11am on April 2nd. Among the many groups that were out tabling and supporting the event, TKE was one of them. Throughout the night, many brothers participated and were present at the event helping to raise money. Brothers could be found, along with ladies from Kappa Alpha Theta, selling cotton candy and other treats to the guests walking around the “mall”. Keeping a close eye throughout the night was the TKE Relay for Life chairman, Robert Ponsonby, who organized TKE’s part in the event and coordinated who should be where and when. TKE ended up raising over $2000 for charity and helping UCF surpass its own goal of $85,000.
